Apple sees its worst iPhone sales in US in 6 years

April 25, 2024  17:19

As of the first quarter of 2024, only 33% of activated smartphones in the US are iPhones, which is the worst performance since 2017 for the company that produces these smartphones. This is reported by the 9to5Mac website, citing the latest study by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).

Over the past year, the iPhone's share of newly activated devices in the US has fallen by 7%. Now 2/3 of this volume goes to smartphones running Android operating system.

CIRP experts believe that Apple faced the deterioration of its sales index for two reasons. The first is the general improvement in the quality of the iPhone, which has increased the life of the devices. The second is the slowing down of the introduction of innovations and the general decrease in their importance. However, there are new features in the iPhone that motivate Americans to buy Apple smartphones.

Apple will present new iPhones in September 2024. The iPhone 16 series is expected to have an improved processor, updated cameras and the ability to create spatial content for the Vision Pro device.

It should be noted that according to the quarterly report of the same analytical company Counterpoint Research, Apple's smartphone sales in China decreased by almost one fifth in the first quarter of 2024. In addition, due to the decrease in demand for the iPhone in the Chinese market, its price has decreased by about 25 percent since its release.
