Apple has overtaken Samsung for the first time in the last seven quarters in terms of smartphone sales in Europe։ the company increased its shipments by 1% year-over-year to 12.4 million units.

According to the data published by the analytical company Canalys, as of the fourth quarter of 2023, in general, smartphone shipments in Europe (excluding Russia) decreased by 3% year-on-year, reaching 37.8 million units.

The sales index of Samsung, which came in second place, decreased by 12%, reaching 10.8 million units. It is noteworthy that Samsung was the largest supplier throughout 2023. Xiaomi retained third place despite a 10% drop (6 million units), helped by positive dynamics in Central and Eastern Europe. Rounding out the top five are Motorola and Honor, which sold 2 million and 1.1 million units during the specified period, and the annual growth rates were 73% and 116%, respectively.

"High-end smartphones captured a record share of the European market in the fourth quarter of 2023. Almost 40% of smartphone shipments were priced at $800 or more. The dominance of the high-end segment was mainly due to the high demand for the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the continued sales of the Galaxy S series and the growing sales of the Google Pixel," Canalys analyst Runar Bjorhovde said.

Canalys previously reported that the total sales of the 10 best-selling smartphones in 2023 totaled 246 million units. In addition, there are seven iPhone phones in the top ten, which also occupy the first five places. Samsung occupied only three places in the top ten.
