WhatsApp introduces new feature: Voice messages can ‘self-destruct’

December 8, 2023  12:21

The popular messenger WhatsApp has introduced ‘self-destructing’ features for voice messages called ‘View Once’. This feature has worked for photos and videos since 2021, but now it has finally extended to audio messages, increasing the level of confidentiality of communications in the application.

The messenger developers propose using the new function in situations where increased confidentiality is required, for example, when transmitting sensitive information.

According to the WABetaInfo resource, the function will be implemented gradually into the application on the iOS and Android platforms. The update is expected to become available in the coming days. To activate the feature, users will be able to select the “View once” option when recording a voice message by clicking on the “1” icon next to the visual display of the message.

WhatsApp has recently received many new and useful features. For devices running on iOS, it became possible to authorize via email. From now on, you can also send media files -- photos and videos -- in their original size, without loss of quality. The limit on the size of sent files is 2 GB.

In addition, a new feature was recently discovered in the beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone that allows participants in group chats to share the contents of their screen and broadcast movies and music to their interlocutors. This functionality is not yet available in beta versions of Android, and it is unknown when it will appear.
