Apple has finally abandoned its own Lightning connector. The new smartphones presented at the Wonderlust event on September 12, 2023 already have a USB-C connector. Moreover, some other devices also got such a connector.
In particular, all 4 iPhone 15 series smartphones received USB-C:
- iPhone 15 starting at $799
- iPhone 15 Plus starting at $899
- iPhone 15 Pro starting at $999
- iPhone 15 Pro Max starting at $1,199
The company also presents several accessories with USB-C support:
- Apple EarPods (wired headphones): $19,
- Apple AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging case: $249. Unfortunately, Apple likely won't sell the case separately.
- USB-C cable (60 W): USB-C cable with data transfer speed of USB 2.0: $19,
- USB-C (240W) cable with data transfer speed of USB 2.0, price: $29,
- Thunderbolt 4 cable with 10 Gbps data transfer rate, price: $69. This cable also provides DisplayPort (HBR3) video output,
- Lightning to USB-C adapter for older accessories:
It turns out that if you need faster charging or data transfer speeds, you'll have to spend more money buying an Apple or third-party cable.
