Apple plans to produce less iPhone 15: What is the reason?

August 17, 2023  16:17

Ahead of the presentation of iPhone 15, Apple has decided to reduce the production plan of new smartphones in 2023, 9To5Mac reported, citing Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu.

Apple originally planned to ship 83 million iPhone 15 units in 2023, but later decided to limit the production to 77 million units. According to Pu, Apple recently informed its investors about this change.

The analyst of Haitong International Securities believes that there are two reasons for the reduction of the production plan. The first is the problems related to the supply of components for the new iPhone. In particular, Apple cannot get enough new photo sensors from Sony. Apart from that, the company faces the same problem with titanium bezels and screens with thinner bezels.

The second reason is the decrease in demand for expensive smartphones. Pu said, without elaborating, that Apple adjusted its plans due to "certain demand issues."

The announcement of iPhone 15 is expected in September 2023. The release of the devices may take place at the end of the same month or at the beginning of October.

Earlier NEWS.am reported that Foxconn has already started production of iPhone 15 in India and the smartphone will be officially announced very soon. It is noteworthy that the Indian factory will start supplying smartphones just a few weeks after starting production in China. During the release of previous iPhone models, production in India started 6-9 months after China.
