The next generation of iPhone smartphones will get an even more advanced camera. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provided some interesting insights into the planned camera specs for the iPhone 16: they will feature a multi-layer CMOS sensor similar to the one used in the upcoming iPhone 15.

According to Macrumors.com, the main models of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be equipped with an innovative 48-megapixel rear camera module with multi-level CMOS sensor. This innovative sensor will allow the sensor to capture more light and process photos over a wide range of brightness, resulting in higher image quality. In addition, this multi-layer sensor will lay the foundation for the future development of camera technology and will be used in all iPhone 16 models.

However, it's important to note that due to the camera layout of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, Apple was unable to implement this CMOS sensor across the entire lineup. Despite this, Apple has secured a deal with Sony for a large batch of such cameras, which will ensure that this advanced technology can be used in the iPhone 16 and even allow the company to produce smartphones using this sensor until 2024.

Sony's capabilities, limited by obligations to Apple, could provide an advantage to rival Will Semi. This means that Chinese smartphone makers wishing to incorporate this advanced technology into their devices will be able to turn to Will Semi for CMOS sensors.

In addition, according to leaks, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models expected in 2024 will receive a periscope camera, which will significantly improve optical zoom and long-range photography capabilities.

The official presentation of the iPhone 15 line of smartphones, as well as the Apple Watch 9 and Watch Ultra smart watches, is expected to take place on September 13. The exact date of the event will be announced by the company in late August or early September.
