Follow these tips to reduce power consumption and extend the battery life of your iPhone, especially on older models.
- Turn off Screen Mirroring on Mac
- If you don’t use iPhone Screen Mirroring on Mac (a new feature in iOS 18), turn it off:
Settings → AirPlay & Continuity → Screen Mirroring → Off.
This will help reduce battery consumption, especially if your computer is running Windows or Linux.
- Manage Apple Intelligence features
- Some new iOS 18 features, such as emoji generation, consume a lot of power.
If you rarely use them, simply turn them off to avoid unnecessary strain on your battery.
- Turn off fitness tracking
- Step counting and other health data also drain your battery. If you don’t use this feature:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → Turn off Fitness Tracking.
- Turn off unnecessary notifications
- Constant notifications drain battery power not only when you receive messages, but also when the screen turns on.
Go through the list of apps:
Settings → Notifications → Select apps → Turn off notifications for unnecessary apps.
- Use Dark Mode (OLED displays)
- Devices with OLED displays (iPhone X, XS, 12 and later, except XR, 11, SE 2 and 3):
Dark Mode saves battery power by using less power on black and gray shades.
Settings → Display & Brightness → Dark Mode.
- Additional tips:
- Turn off location services for unnecessary apps.
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Turn off for unnecessary apps.
- Close resource-intensive background processes.
Settings → General → Background Content Refresh → Turn off for unnecessary apps.
- Use Low Power Mode.
Activate it when the battery is low:
Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode → Turn on.
Following these recommendations, you can significantly extend the battery life of your iPhone, especially if you use iOS 18 features selectively.
