All iPhone 17 models coming next year will come with 12GB of random access memory (RAM), MacRumors reports. That's a significant increase from the 8GB expected in the iPhone 16 models.

Apple has previously used different amounts of RAM depending on the price of the models. For example, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have 6GB of RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have 8GB. The news that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will get 12GB of RAM is notable because Apple appears to be standardizing the amount of memory across all models.

The increase in RAM is believed to be due to the need to support more advanced Apple Intelligence (AI) features. This scenario seems likely, as the lower-memory iPhone 15 and 15 Plus lack some AI capabilities, while the 8GB RAM iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max can handle them.
