Sergey Kuzmenko, the head of the digital expertise center of "Roskachestvo" (Russian Quality System), told the Prime agency about some habits that can damage the smartphone and shorten its service life.

Charging rules

Modern smartphones use lithium-ion batteries that do not need to be completely discharged and charged to 100%. This can shorten their service life. Charging the smartphone at night is also not recommended as it can cause overheating and shorten battery life. In the best case, the smartphone should be charged to 80-90% and stop charging before going to bed.

Temperature and humidity

Keeping the smartphone beyond the specified temperature range may damage the battery. According to Roskachestvo, you should not leave the phone in the open sun, as this can lead to overheating and turning off the device. It is also not recommended to leave the smartphone in places with high humidity, as this may affect the safety of the internal components.

Damage

According to statistics, the most common reason for contacting a service center to repair phones is physical damage to the smartphone. To minimize the consequences of careless handling, it is recommended to use special cases and protective glasses.

According to Sergey Kuzmenko, most of the advice received from the Internet about drying a smartphone that has fallen into water should be ignored. For example, drying the smartphone by placing it in rice or using a hair dryer are all ineffective and can cause additional damage to the device.

Updates

Operating system and application updates play a key role in ensuring the security and stable performance of a smartphone. The lack of updates makes the smartphone vulnerable to cyber attacks.

Memory

Continuous use of a smartphone with the built-in memory completely full can slow down the device and lead to malfunctions. Most applications consume device resources even when they are not active. This leads to rapid battery drain and reduced device performance.
