The Android 15 operating system will receive the code name Vanilla Ice Cream. Android analyst and XDA Developers resource editor Mishaal Rahman announced this.
He found the information about the Android 15 codename in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code.
In addition, the code name of the new Android has been revealed earlier than usual this time. For example, Android 14's code name—Upside Down Cake—became known in April 2022.
True, now these code names do not play any role in practice. Previously, the names of popular desserts—Android 12 Snow Cone, Android 13 Tiramisu, etc. —were used quite actively, but recently they are noted as a code name only in the company's internal documents.
As for the release date of the new Android 15, it is not yet known. Google released the initial version of Android 14 just a month ago, and it can be assumed that the next version of this operating system will most likely be released after a year.
For now, Android 13 remains the main version of this operating system, the stable version for the release of which was released on August 15, 2022.
