All iPhone 16 models will get the same powerful processor։ Why did Apple make such a decision?

All models of the iPhone 16 series will receive the same powerful processor, despite the fact that for years the company has equipped only the older models of the new iPhone series with the new processor, while the younger models have usually received the older processors used in the previous year's series. This is reported by the MacRumors website.

According to the source, Apple most likely intends to abandon this practice, as evidenced by the software code discovered by researcher Nicholas Alvarez.

Specifically, new model identifiers were found: iPhone 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 17.4 and 17.5. The number 17 indicates that they will all get one common processor. For example, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus with the A16 processor, which were released last year, had the identifiers 15.4 and 15.5, while the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max with the A17 Pro chip had the identifiers 16.1 and 16.2.

The site notes that the fifth smartphone with the iPhone 17.5 identifier may be the new iPhone SE, which is scheduled to be presented in the spring of 2025. The iPhone 16 series should be presented this fall.

According to the source, Apple intends to use the same powerful Apple A18 processor in all models of the series to ensure that all new devices are compatible with Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence capabilities. This will avoid a situation where users of basic models of iPhone 16 may be deprived of access to artificial intelligence functions, as was the case with last year's iPhone 15.
