The popular WhatsApp messenger will stop releasing updates for 47 old smartphone models in 2024, including smartphones from companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Sony, LG, and Apple. These devices run older versions of Google and Apple's Android 5.0 and iOS 12 operating systems, Gizchina reports.
The list of affected devices includes models that have been around for over 7 years, but some users are still using them. However, Meta (which owns WhatsApp) has decided to stop supporting them to focus on new devices and updated software.
Below is the full list of devices that will not be supported by WhatsApp:
Samsung
Apple
Huawei
Lenovo
Sony
Motorola
LG
This list also includes devices from other manufacturers such as Faea F1, THL W8, Archos 53 Platinum, Wiko Cink Five, Wiko Darknight, ZTE V956, ZTE UMi X2, ZTE Grand S Flex and ZTE Grand Memo.
The latest WhatsApp update for these devices was released on February 1, 2020. Their owners can continue to use the WhatsApp application, but will not receive updates and therefore new features.
