iOS 18 could be biggest update in iPhone history: What changes to expect?

The upcoming iOS 18 could become the largest software update in the entire history of the iPhone. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, developers at Apple have ambitious plans for iOS 18, expected to be released in the fall of this year.

"I have been informed that within the company, the new operating system is considered one of the most significant updates to iOS—if not the largest—in Apple's history," Gurman noted in his report.

He also promised to provide more detailed information about specific changes and features that will be introduced in iOS 18. However, at present, two significant innovations expected to be part of the future update are already known. The release for users is scheduled for September, with the developer beta version coming after the annual WWDC conference in June.

In November of last year, Apple announced support for the cross-platform messaging standard RCS in the iMessage app in iOS, set to be implemented in 2024. Based on this, it can be assumed that RCS support will be incorporated into iOS 18. This will lead to several improvements in message exchange through iMessage between iPhones and Android devices, such as the ability to send high-resolution photos and videos, audio messages, as well as the introduction of a typing indicator, and more.

According to Gurman, iOS 18 will also bring significant updates to the Siri voice assistant through the use of artificial intelligence technologies, including generative algorithms. He also noted that Apple has explored the possibility of integrating AI algorithms into other applications, including Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and Xcode.
