In which industries could AI replace workers in 2024?

January 17, 2024  16:13

The introduction of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in 2024 will lead to a reduction in the number of enterprise employees by at least 5%. This opinion is shared by 25% of top managers of companies around the world, according to a survey by the international consulting corporation PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), published on the organization’s official website.

The new PwC study was timed to coincide with the annual World Economic Forum, taking place in Davos, Switzerland, from January 15 to 19.

According to a survey of 4,702 business executives from 105 countries, downsizing due to AI will primarily affect industries such as media and entertainment, banking, insurance and logistics. Automation is least likely to replace employees in engineering and construction firms, as well as specialists in technology companies.

A third (32%) of respondents said they would implement AI-based tools in their business in 2023. About 58% of study participants expect that neural networks will improve the quality of their products or services by 2024. According to 69%, their employees will have to learn new skills in order to start using AI in their work.

About 46% of respondents believe that the use of generative AI will improve company profitability in the next 12 months. At the same time, 47% of respondents believe that technology will provide only minor changes or will have no effect at all.
