When will new ‘spy’ gadget from Apple be released and what do we know about it?

January 11, 2024  10:23

Apple released its first ‘spy’ gadget, the AirTag item tracker, in April 2021. Since then, the accessory has not received hardware updates, but there have been rumors about the imminent appearance of a new model. MacRumors analyzed all the Apple AirTag 2 rumors and shared assumptions about when the new product might appear on the market and what functions it might receive.

The tracker was initially expected to be released in 2024. But data from well-known TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that at the end of last year the release of Apple AirTag 2 was postponed from the fourth quarter of 2024 to an indefinite period of 2025. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman shared the same forecast.

“Apple considered launching its second-generation AirTags in 2024, but I'm now told new versions aren't likely to hit the market until 2025,” he wrote in the latest issue of the Power On newsletter.

As for the functionality of the Apple AirTag 2, unfortunately, even less is known about it. According to some insiders, the device will be compatible with the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

According to rumors, the new product will receive a new UWB chip, which is already used in the iPhone 15 and which will increase the accuracy of AirTag detection from Apple smartphones.
