iPhones receive new eco-friendly cases made of ‘cactus leather’

OtterBox, a well-known manufacturer of smartphone accessories, presented new iPhone cases made from prickly pear cactus at the popular CES 2024 exhibition.

According to MacRumors, a series of new cases is called Symmetry. They feature a solid polymer frame with reinforced corners, and there are ridges around the camera housing and display for added protection from drops and scratches. The surface of the covers is made of soft leather-textured material obtained from prickly pear segments.

According to OtterBox, cactus leather requires less land, water and other resources to produce than traditional leather. Moreover, only mature prickly pear pads are used to make the covers, so collecting raw materials for these covers does not harm the plant.

Representatives from MacRumors tested the new cases at CES 2024 in Las Vegas and concluded that the new material is better than FineWoven, which many were unhappy with.

Symmetry accessories will be available in spring 2024 for $60.

Let us remind you that recently the Russian company Caviar, specializing in luxury accessories for mobile devices, introduced a new line of custom cases for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. This is an updated version of the FineWoven cases: the standard recycled materials from Apple (which abandoned genuine leather as part of the brand's desire to be more environmentally responsible) were replaced with genuine Hermes Togo and Epsom leather. These luxurious materials are commonly used to create Hermes Birkin bags.
