Apple accidentally leaks information about new iPhone 16 processors

Data miners have analyzed the code of an early version of iOS 18 and found mentions of four 2024 iPhone models, each running on the same processor. This information comes from MacRumors.

The operating system codenamed Crystal contains references to four unreleased iPhone models, aligning with existing information about the iPhone 16 lineup. The mentioned models are: D47 – iPhone 16, D48 – iPhone 16 Plus, D93 – iPhone 16 Pro, D94 – iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The OS code also indicates that the entire iPhone 16 lineup will use a new system-on-a-chip, designated as t8140 – Tahiti. It is likely to be named A18. The A18 chip is mentioned in relation to all iPhone 16 versions, including the base model and the Plus model, which is an atypical decision for Apple. Normally, lower-tier devices in a series receive processors from the previous generation.

Additionally, iOS 18 includes mentions of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules from Broadcom. Thus, it seems that Apple won't manage to develop its own Wi-Fi chip in time for the release of the iPhone 16.

Data miners did not find information about new features in the mobile operating system. MacRumors suggests that iOS 18 is likely in a very early stage of development.
