The iPhone 16 Pro may come equipped with an upgraded ultra-wide camera featuring a 48-megapixel sensor. This information is reported by the publication MacRumors, citing an insider who goes by the name Instant Digital on the Chinese social network Weibo.

According to the insider, the iPhone 16 Pro will utilize two sensors with a resolution of 48 MP in both the main and ultra-wide cameras. The new sensor is expected to enable the ultra-wide camera to capture more light, leading to improved photo quality, especially when shooting in 0.5× mode and particularly in low-light conditions.

This also implies that the iPhone 16 Pro may gain the capability to capture 48-megapixel ProRAW photos in the ultra-wide mode. Such photos retain more details in the image file, providing users with greater flexibility when editing shots.

MacRumors notes that Instant Digital is a moderately reliable source of information on Apple's developments. For instance, the insider previously revealed the release of the yellow iPhone 15, the introduction of Spatial Video support in the iPhone 15 Pro, a minor update to the Apple Watch Series 9, and more.
