Why don't iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max charge well in American cars?

The latest flagship iPhones are experiencing charging issues in certain General Motors vehicles, according to reports from MacRumors, citing complaints from users on Reddit and the Apple website.

Some Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Buick vehicles equipped with built-in wireless charging systems are unable to charge the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. Users report that the smartphone starts charging for a few seconds, but then the energy supply abruptly stops. There are also reports of complete incompatibility.

"It's reassuring to know it's not just me. My iPhone 12 Pro Max worked perfectly (every time) in my 23-year-old Chevy Traverse," wrote one Reddit user.

As highlighted by MacRumors, many complaints stem from users of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max with iOS 17.1, suggesting that the issue may be linked to this particular software update.

Some wireless charging systems in cars are inherently unreliable, as they are designed for smartphones of various sizes. The problem of aligning the smartphone correctly on the charging pad is a common issue for car owners.

General Motors has acknowledged that they are "aware of this issue" and is currently "conducting an investigation" into the matter.
