How much did production of iPhone 15 Pro Max increase due to titanium frame?

The new iPhone 15 Pro Max costs Apple $37.7 more to produce compared to the previous iPhone 14 Pro Max model. This is due, according to the analytical company Counterpoint Research, to the use of more expensive and advanced components.

One of the factors increasing the cost of a new smartphone is the use of a titanium frame in the case: titanium increased the cost of the case by $7. In addition, the titanium frame made the smartphone stronger, but at the same time lighter by 20 grams.

The most expensive components were the 3-nanometer Apple A17 Pro chip and improved cameras, which increased costs by $30 and $25.1, respectively, compared to the previous model.

But at the same time, Apple was able to partially offset the increase in costs by reducing prices for memory chips, screens, communication modules and other components. In addition, the proportion of components developed by Apple itself has increased from 22% in the iPhone 14 Pro Max to 25% in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Overall, the production cost of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is estimated at $558.

Let us recall that recently tech blogger Zach Nelson, who performs on YouTube under the nickname JerryRigEverything, sawed the new iPhone 15 Pro Max with a grinder to measure the thickness of the titanium layer in the smartphone body. As it turned out, the aluminum part of the case is inside, and a titanium layer is used to cover it. The thickness of this layer, as determined by Zach, is approximately one millimeter, which provides the smartphone with additional strength and protection.
