Let's develop solutions together: Yerevan hosting 5th annual Silicon Mountains Tech Summit

The international Silicon Mountains Tech Summit 2023, which is dedicated to the challenges of a “smart country,” is taking place in Armenia’s capital Yerevan.

The organizer of this event, which is being held for the fifth time now, is the Union of Employers of Information and Communication Technologies (UEICT), which continues to bring together local and international experts in the technology sector, representatives of the public, private, and public sectors on one platform to discuss the vision of the fourth industrial revolution, the challenges, and the inevitable technological future as well as the risks and opportunities arising from it.

During the panel discussions dedicated to the topics of smart country, smart business and smart citizen, sector leaders—decision makers, local and international experts, Armenian, US, and UK officials will share their experience, vision, and challenges of creating a Smart Country.

Eduard Musayelyan, Executive Director at UEICT, noted in his welcoming remarks that every year, when organizing this summit, they face the question of whether to organize it or cancel it, and the reason is geopolitical situations. 

"The world around us is changing at an unprecedented speed, and our country is no exception. We are witnessing many changes and facing many challenges. Every year it becomes clear that Silicon Mountains is not just a summit, but a significant event for the development of our country.

“The term ‘smart’ is used a lot in this context. It is in the domain of being smart that countries demonstrate their competitive advantages, as a nation, as a state, as a businessman, as an individual. We must realize that the most valuable resource of the country is the human being.

“A smart country is one that adapts, appropriates, and uses technology to overcome obstacles and create new opportunities. I attribute smart business to those companies that are willing and accepting digital transformations. Smart businesses are flexible, customer-centric, and constantly looking for ways to organize and improve the industry.

“A smart citizen is an individual who is not only technologically savvy, but also engaged, informed, and aware. It’s about those individuals who actively participate in the formation of their communities, who use technology for welfare," Musayelyan said.

He added as follows: "After the summit today, when you leave this hall, we fully hope that you will take with you not only the opinions expressed and inspiring stories during the event, but also the commitment that implies to be more innovative and more purposeful. Let's develop solutions together, create cooperative relations, and build a future for our country and the world."

To note, during this summit, the ceremony for the Global High-Tech Award, the State Award of Armenia for Global Contribution to Humanity Through High-Tech, will take place Wednesday. This year, the 2022 award will be presented, whose winner is Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen.
