Samsung develops 432-megapixel sensor for smartphones

Samsung is working on two sensors with a resolution of 432 megapixels at once. This information was shared by an insider known under the nickname Revegnus on Twitter, revealing information about future image sensors from Samsung.

Despite many studies showing that the quality of photos does not always depend on the number of megapixels (which Apple is well aware of), Samsung nevertheless decided to develop new cameras with a huge number of these same megapixels.

These new sensors will be introduced in the ISOCELL HW range and include two models: ISOCELL HW1 and ISOCELL HW2. Both sensors have a resolution of 432 megapixels, but they have different diagonals and, therefore, pixel sizes: HW1 - 1/1.05 inches and 0.56 microns, HW2 - 1/1.07 inches and 0.5 microns.

The question remains whether ISOCELL HW sensors will really become popular. If they can collect more light than Sony's sensors, it could be a revolution in mobile photography. But it is worth remembering that Sony is not sitting idly by and is also working on developing the technologies it uses.

Revegnus also reported that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature a 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN3 sensor as its primary sensor, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a brand new HP5 sensor, which has not yet been officially unveiled. As the name suggests, the HP5 will probably be an improved version of the existing 200MP sensor HP3.

This insider was previously the first to publish photos of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 before its release, and also presented the characteristics of the Exynos 2400 processor, which were later confirmed in the Geekbench application.
