Foxconn starts iPhone 15 production in India: This smartphone will be officially unveiled very soon

August 17, 2023  10:19

Although Apple has not officially unveiled the iPhone 15, Foxconn has already started production at its plant in India. The company is thus trying to diversify its smartphone making and reduce its dependence on Chinese manufacture.

In the last few years, Apple has been gradually increasing production in India, Bloomberg reported. The new iPhone 15 smartphones will be assembled at the Foxconn plant in Sriperumbudur town of Tamil Nadu state.

It is interesting that this Indian plant will start delivery these smartphones just a few weeks after starting production in China. When the previous iPhone models were released, everything was different, as production in India used to start 6 to 9 months after China.

This is also the first time that a specific iPhone model will be mass-produced in India before its official launch. Last year, the iPhone 14, for example, began to be assembled in India at the end of September; that is, some time after its release.

The iPhone 15’s amount of production in India will depend on the availability of imported components and expansion of production lines. The Pegatron and Wistron plants are also expected to start assembling the new iPhone 15 models soon.

In addition to that, Foxconn plans to start manufacturing AirPods in India by the end of 2024, DigiTimes reported. The move confirms Apple's desire to expand its presence in this country and diversify its manufacturing operations.

What is known about the new iPhone 15 series?

Only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are likely to get the latest 3nm Apple A17 Bionic chips, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will get Apple's older—A16 chip, which was used in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. It is also known that the iPhone 15 Pro models, like the iPhone 14 Pro, will have only 6 GB of RAM. It was previously rumored that the new iPhones, especially older models, could get 8GB of RAM.

The iPhone 15 Pro will be 30% more powerful than its predecessor, and its USB-C will be 40 times faster than that of the iPhone 15.

The unveiling of iPhone 15 series is scheduled for September 12. However, many people may not want to buy them right away, as some experts recommend waiting until Spring 2024.
