The Earth's gravitational pull will capture the asteroid 2024 PT5 from the secondary Arjuna asteroid belt, causing it to orbit our planet, much like the Moon — but only for 56.6 days. The asteroid has a diameter of about 10 meters.

Asteroid 2024 PT5 was discovered in August of this year by researchers from the NASA-funded Asteroid Monitoring System.

Scientists from Madrid's Complutense University tracked the asteroid's orbit for 21 days and mapped out its future trajectory — 2024 PT5 will orbit Earth from September 29 to November 25.

Earth's gravity will draw 2024 PT5 into its orbit, and the asteroid won't be able to escape the planet's gravitational pull. It will remain in orbit for almost two months before returning to the asteroid belt. However, in about 30 years — in 2055 — 2024 PT5 will approach Earth's orbit once again.
