When will iPhone get new scratch resistant anti-reflective display?

The iPhone 17, which is expected to be released in 2025, may have a scratch-resistant screen with anti-reflective coating. For comparison, a similar screen is already available in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

According to Macrumors.com, the new protective glass on the iPhone 17 screen will receive an ultra-durable anti-reflective coating and will be more scratch resistant than Apple Ceramic Shield installed on iPhone 15 models.

According to the source cited by the publication, equipment for the production of the new coating has already been integrated into the supply chain in China. However, the smartphones of the upcoming iPhone 16 series, which will be shown in the fall of 2024, will not receive new glass.

The company's current smartphones use Ceramic Shield, a glass-ceramic material developed by Corning in partnership with Apple, which the company calls its toughest smartphone glass yet. In 2021, Apple said it invested a total of $495 million to support Corning's ongoing research and development into "advanced glass processes" that led to the creation of the Ceramic Shield.

At the beginning of 2024, Samsung introduced the flagship smartphone Galaxy S24 Ultra with Gorilla Glass Armor from the same Corning with an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare by 75% and has increased resistance to micro-scratches. Corning claims its panels are four times more scratch-resistant than competitors' glass.
