Honor presents smartphone with unusual battery: What should you know about it?

Honor recently introduced the Magic6 Pro smartphone, which received an unusual second-generation silicon-carbon battery.

As GSMArena reports, the new type of battery uses silicon instead of graphite as a negative electrode. Silicon, according to experts, has several key advantages over graphite: the main one is its density; The silicon anode provides 10 times greater power density than graphite. On the other hand, it is much larger in size, and will most likely serve less. To compensate for these shortcomings, Honor uses a silicon-carbon anode in its battery.

The battery is manufactured using laser-guided microtunneling technology, which is considered essential for a silicon-based anode. This increases the contact area between the electrolyte and the anode, opening up usable capacity in the low voltage range, and also helps increase the battery's capacity.

In addition, Honor uses a special Power Enhanced Chip Honor E1 in Magic6 Pro to manage battery performance. This chip constantly adjusts the current based on the environment and loads, which the manufacturer says makes the battery safer and allows it to perform better in extreme weather conditions, especially cold weather.

According to company representatives, Magic6 Pro is capable of working properly and for a long time at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius.

Note that in China, Honor Magic6 Pro went on sale on January 18, 2024. The price of the device starts at 4399 yuan (about $620).
