The cameras in the supermarkets of the future will be like this: They will monitor and analyze your behavior

In the not so distant future, all cameras in supermarkets are likely to become like this. In the meantime, the new cameras, developed in collaboration with Fujitsu, have been installed at the Aruk Mitajiri supermarket in the Japanese city of Hofu. These cameras are equipped with an innovative surveillance system that monitors the behavior of customers, analyzes it with the help of AI, and in real time can suggest products that may be of interest to specific visitors.

According to The Register, the use of such cameras could allow the supermarket to find new ways to personalize advertising.

The technology lies in the fact that the system monitors the behavior of customers during the selection of goods in the store. Then, based on this data, it provides personalized advertising. It is important to note that the system is able to monitor every action of customers: from a close examination of the goods in the windows to picking up the goods, comparing them with others and other similar actions.

The data collected by the cameras is sent directly to the generative artificial intelligence platform. As a result, individual offers are communicated to buyers through advertising presented by a virtual "avatar concierge".

Fujitsu believes the technology will help encourage shoppers to return to the shelves to explore and shop. To develop this system, the company collaborated with a group of scientists, including the director of the Institute of Marketing and Communications at Waseda University, Naoto Onzo.

The technology is currently in the testing phase at Aruk Mitajiri supermarket and will be tested by October 15th. After successful adaptation, it is planned to be introduced to other stores of the network, which could become a new chapter in the field of analysis and interaction with customers in the retail world.
