International logistics company DHL sent a commercial package to the Moon containing souvenirs from Earth, including a stone from Everest and the meme coin Digocoin. According to Collect Space, this happened for the first time in history.

As part of the MoonBox project, DHL accepted more than 100,000 applications from those wishing to send memorabilia to the Moon. The first batch of parcels consisted of 150 objects, including the aforementioned stone from the top of Mount Everest, a physical copy of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency token that became an Internet meme, as well as a time capsule from Belgium, a selection of posts from the Internet forum Reddit, a letter from a space tourist to his deceased father-astronaut and so on.

The package flew to the Moon on January 8 along with the Peregrine probe of the American private aerospace company Astrobotic on board the Vulcan rocket built by the United Launch Alliance. Peregrine is due to descend on the lunar surface near the volcanic hills of Gruithuisen in the Gulf of Viscosity on the visible side of our planet's moon.

Astrobotic and DHL have already opened bookings for new packages that can be sent to the Moon on future missions. Only objects measuring no more than five centimeters in width, length and height are suitable for interplanetary delivery. Objects must be inert—incapable of using electricity or sending or receiving data. The cost of such a service starts from $460 and reaches $25,800 without taking into account postage within the Earth. Each MoonPod is assigned a DHL MoonBox serial number, but there is no tracking number for them yet.
