China Three Gorges Renewables Group has announced plans to build a unique 8 GW solar power plant. This is reported by Electrek.

The total cost of the project will be 11 billion dollars. The solar power plant will provide energy to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Construction should begin in September of this year and be completed in 2027.

By comparison, the three largest solar power plants in the world have a capacity of about 3 GW, all located in China. The new solar power plant will be built in the Inner Mongolia region in northern China and will transmit electricity through ultra-high voltage lines.

In addition to the 8 GW solar power plant, the project includes the construction of a 4 GW wind farm, a 5 GW buffer storage facility, a 200 MW solar thermal energy collection complex and a 4 GW coal-fired power plant. The plant will be operated by China Three Gorges Renewables (56% stake) and Inner Mongolia Energy Group (44%).
