The long-standing rivalry between Apple and Meta is taking an unexpected turn amid the growing importance of artificial intelligence. The companies are negotiating a partnership in which Meta's AI models will complement Apple's intelligent assistant platform, Apple Intelligence.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the integration will be similar to Apple's partnership with ChatGPT. Users will be able to direct certain queries to a third-party AI model, such as Meta AI.

For example, Siri will be able to forward complex queries to Meta AI. The results will be displayed in the Siri interface. The model will also be available for creating text and images in Write Tools.

According to the terms of the agreement, Meta AI cannot collect user data and must delete all requests immediately after processing it. The integration will be available for free to all users of the ChatGPT-4o base model. Users with a ChatGPT Plus subscription can log into their account to access additional features.

Apple intends to integrate several AI models into its system, and Meta AI could be one of them. The company is also considering cooperation with Google Gemini, Perplexity, Anthropic and other models.

Apple Intelligence will be available in future updates to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It will initially only be available in English for select iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac models. Support for additional languages and other regions will be added later.
