iPhone 15 will receive updates in a shorter time than the flagships of Samsung and Google

Apple has officially confirmed that the iPhone 15 will receive updates for at least five years after the start of sales, which is a shorter period than Samsung and Google offer for their smartphones, the Android Authority website reports.

Apple has never previously stated how long it will support its devices. The company, however, has now set a minimum support period for iPhones of five years, which is shorter than other manufacturers.

For example, the latest devices from Samsung and Google come with up to seven years of guaranteed support, including security fixes and new Android versions. However, the vast majority of Android smartphones receive updates for an average of two to three years.

Over the course of the iPhone's history, Apple has released updates for some models for as long as six years or more. Therefore, some devices may continue to receive updates after the minimum support period has expired.

In addition, in the United Kingdom specifically, the company will have to provide such support, since the Product Safety and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act came into force there. It requires companies that manufacture, import or distribute Internet-accessible devices to follow certain security requirements. One of those rules is to specify the support period during which security updates will be provided.
