New magnetic storm to cover Earth on January 23: Can this affect people’s well-being?

January 22, 2024  10:15

On January 23, a new magnetic storm will cover the Earth. According to estimates from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the peak of the storm is expected at approximately 7:00 a.m. Yerevan time, after which geomagnetic disturbances will persist for several hours.

The expected magnetic storm will be level G1, that is, weak. The maximum level is designated as G5 - such storms do not occur very often.

Magnetic storms, technology and health

Magnetic storms, as is known, can affect the operation of equipment and cause some interruptions in communication. But can they have an impact on people's health?

As it turns out, there is no clear answer to this question. Some argue that weather-sensitive people may experience headaches, pressure changes or rapid heartbeat during magnetic storms, even weak ones.

Therapist, gastroenterologist Konstantin Spakhov advises weather-dependent people to try to get enough sleep during a magnetic storm, engage in auto-training, meditation, do light relaxing exercises and walk in nature.

On the other hand, climatologist Nina Zaitseva claims that science has no data on the effect of magnetic storms on the human body.

Maria Abunina, an employee of the IZMIRAN Space Weather Forecast Center, also believes that there is no evidence that magnetic storms actually affect well-being. According to her, the average person experiences about 4,000 magnetic storms in their lifetime, and this is a completely natural phenomenon.
