What risks are hidden behind ‘erotic’ advertising on the Internet?

Cybercriminals can use online advertisements with erotic overtones to distribute various malware and steal money. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to experts in the field of information security.

Hackers are very active in using various advertising formats with elements of eroticism (these could be advertisements for intimate services, illegal perversions, sex toys, or simply links to pornographic materials). Their goal is to get users to click on the link. Most likely, the user ends up on some website where he will be asked to enter his bank card details or some other personal data. Naturally, transferring such data to hackers can lead to the loss of money or important confidential fan information, which can subsequently also lead to the theft of money from your cards.

In addition, clicking on suspicious links can trigger the download of malware onto the user's devices, and these programs will transfer confidential data to the attackers without the user's knowledge.

“For example, a user may be offered to buy a subscription to a service or access to some exclusive materials for a very small fee. Then the potential victim will be transferred to a page for entering bank card data, which will be similar to the website of a bank or payment service, but in reality will not be one,” explained Yuri Ursu, director of the audit department for digital development and state support of entrepreneurship of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation.

According to experts, most often men become victims of such scams on the Internet.

To avoid loss of funds and confidential data, it is recommended not to click on suspicious links and under no circumstances enter bank card details or any other data on unknown sites. It is recommended that you ensure that you are on a reputable site before entering such information.
