Annular solar eclipse will occur on October 14

October 6, 2023  18:02

On October 14, 2023, there will be an annular solar eclipse, also called the "ring of fire". This name comes from the fact that the Moon is at that moment at its farthest point from the Earth and is too small to completely cover the Sun, so a unique ring of fire forms around it.

The maximum phase of this rare event will be visible in North, Central and South America. Unfortunately, it will be possible to watch the solar eclipse from Armenia only live, which will be broadcast by NASA at 17:30.

This eclipse will only last a few minutes, but Nicaragua and Costa Rica will be able to see it for more than five minutes.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the apparent diameter of the Moon is smaller than the diameter of the Sun, so the sky will be slightly darker at that time, but not as much as during a total solar eclipse. It may even be a little colder outside during the eclipse.

The first solar eclipse in 2023 took place on April 20. On that day, the shadow of the moon passed over the eastern Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. The maximum duration of the eclipse was 1 minute and 16 seconds in the territory of Timor Island. A total solar eclipse will take place on April 8, 2024.
