NASA appoints director for study of unidentified anomalous phenomena: What will he do?

September 15, 2023  10:25

NASA announced that it has appointed a new director of the investigation of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP)—formerly known as UFOs, unidentified flying objects. NASA made this decision more than a year after an independent panel of experts from various scientific fields recommended that NASA strengthen its research into unidentified anomalous phenomena.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson has appointed the new director of unidentified anomalous phenomena investigation, but his name is being withheld for security reasons.

The NASA independent study team did not find any evidence that UAP have an extraterrestrial origin. But we don't know what these UAP are, so I am announcing that NASA is appointing a Director of Extraterrestrial Anomalous Affairs, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said during a news conference on the results of the agency's investigation into reported UFO sightings.

According to him, NASA's mission is to understand unknown phenomena. He added that any new findings will be made fully transparent to the public.

Also, NASA is trying to rebrand "unidentified flying objects" as "unidentified anomalous phenomena" in an attempt to remove the "stigma of shame" created by folklore and tabloids. The agency intends to take a scientific approach to the study of unidentified anomalous phenomena.

The new director of the unidentified anomalous phenomena investigations will focus on centralized communications, resources, and analytical capabilities to build a solid database for the assessment of future unidentified anomalous phenomena.

The report also makes a number of recommendations for NASA's future approach to the subject of unidentified anomalous phenomena:

Use its own observational capabilities, such as the James Webb Space Telescope, to study the environmental conditions associated with unidentified anomalous phenomena.

Use the private space industry's vast network of satellites to search for unidentified anomalous phenomena to reduce the use of low-quality footage to detect potential objects.

Explore the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to detect unidentified anomalous phenomena and collect additional data.

Improve public engagement, perhaps by developing a mobile app that would enable photos to be received from ordinary person-viewers.

Make more effective use of the existing reporting system for commercial flight pilots.

Also during the aforesaid press conference, Bill Nelson expressed his personal opinion about the possibility of life outside the Earth; it turns out that he believes that the vast universe makes this possible.
