The American Revolute Robotics company has presented Hybrid Mobility Robot (HMR), an unusual and multifunctional drone that can move both on the ground and in the air.

As New Atlas reports, this unique quadcopter with many rings and a spherical body is an innovative achievement in the field of mobile robots.

How does HMR work?

The robot moves on the ground by leaning forward or backward and operating air propellers. They create a flow of air that allows it to roll in the desired direction. The spherical body, which acts as a wheel, provides stability when moving on the surface.

However, HMR is not limited to overland movement. To fly and move vertically between different platforms, the drone simply flips to a horizontal position and functions like a regular quadcopter.

Revolute Robotics considers flight as an additional mobility option that can be used to overcome obstacles and move quickly vertically. However, for long journeys and varied routes, moving by land is preferable because it requires less electricity.

The body of the HMR is highly flexible, which provides cushioning during landing or mid-air collisions, while ensuring safety and maintaining the integrity of the device during maneuvering.

Revolute Robotics offers many scenarios for using the HMR. In particular, this drone can become an indispensable assistant for utility companies that perform inspection work, as well as for industrial and mining companies, where it can pave the way in hard-to-reach places. The use of this multifunctional device for military purposes is also not excluded.

The official release date of the HMR is not yet known. Revolute Robotics is currently raising funds for the production of this unique drone on the StartEngine crowdfunding platform.
