Susan Wojcicki is stepping down as the CEO of YouTube; she announced this in a post on the service's blog.

"Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I'm passionate about,” wrote Wojcicki, who has been in charge of YouTube since 2014, and of Google—earlier.

Wojcicki explained that this is the right time for her to make this decision because YouTube has an incredible leadership team right now.

She informed that the new head of YouTube will be Neal Mohan, who worked as a product director. Mohan joined Google following the company's acquisition of advertising company DoubleClick in 2007.

Wojcicki said that in the near future she will help Mohan in transitioning to the position of the head of YouTube. For example, in areas such as working with some of the support teams, training members of those teams, as well as meeting with content creators. And in the long term, Wojcicki will take on an advisory role at Google and Alphabet.

According to the data of the fourth quarter, the indicators of the Alphabet—the parent company of Google—decreased significantly. During the mentioned period, the net profit of the company decreased to $13.62 billion, against $20.64 billion of the previous year. This is Alphabet's worst performance in four quarters.

Google's ad revenue—including search and YouTube—fell 3.6% to $59.04 billion, while total revenue rose 1% to $76.05 billion. Such slow growth was recorded for the first time in recent years, except for in the second quarter of 2020 when there was a slight decline.

YouTube’s ad revenue, one of Alphabet's biggest sources of revenue, fell about 8% to $7.96 billion, which is below expectations of $8.25 billion. In the reporting period, the cloud business recorded a good result, the revenue of which increased by 32% to $7.32 billion.

Last month Google decided to cut 12,000 jobs—about 6% of all employees—, and it plans to slow its hiring pace this year.
