In 2022, the number of domains last ".ru" decreased by 88.2 thousand and amounted to only 4.93 million, according to Kommersant, referring to statistics from the "Internet-Technical Center," which supports the registry of domains ".ru", ".rf" and ".su".

Out of the three listed domains, ".ru" is losing its popularity in particular, while the other two registered a slight increase for the first time since 2016. The number of domains in the ".rf" registry domain increased by 1,308 in one year to 676,200 domains, and the number of domains in the ".rf" registry domain increased over the year by 1,308 to 676,200 domains, while the number of domains in the ".su" domain, which was originally allocated to the Soviet Union and now has the status of "reserved by exception" increased by 514, which amounted to 105,900 people.

It is interesting that in 2021 the number of domains ".rf" decreased by 36,800 and ".su" – by 3,400.

According to Marina Brik, head of domains and related services Ru-Center, the decrease in the number of domains ".ru" can be explained by the withdrawal of many foreign companies from the Russian market. And interest in the domains ".rf" and ".su" specialist explains as "a search for alternative domains in international zones."

According to Andrei Vorobiev, Director of the Coordination Center for domains .RU/.RF, the situation with .ru has also been affected by economic difficulties, including "a decrease in the number of administrators of small and medium-sized businesses." Thus, the number of domains registered to individuals and individual entrepreneurs in 2022 decreased by 258,000 to 3.64 million. But the number of domains registered by legal entities increased by 170,000 to 1.28 million during the year.
