Huawei has introduced the S800 electric car, which is a business sedan. It was created in conjunction with the Chinese automobile company JAC and will be released under the new Maextro brand. The exterior and interior design are reminiscent of Mercedes-Maybach and Rolls-Royce.
In 2023, Huawei created the HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) consortium to develop electric cars in China. As part of this initiative, Huawei is developing software, and automakers are developing platforms. The companies have already established three brands: Aito (together with Seres), Luxeed (together with Chery) and Stelato (together with BAIC).
Now Huawei has teamed up with JAC and introduced its first electric car, the S800 sedan, under the Maextro brand. The wheelbase is 3370 mm, which is slightly more than the 3396 mm of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The car is 5480 mm long, 2000 mm wide, and 1536 mm high. The company has not yet announced the characteristics of the electric motors and battery.
Huawei and JAC will use natural leather and wood in the interior. The car will not have a panoramic roof or sunroof. Instead, they will install a roof with starry sky-style lighting. Smart features will include the L3 autonomous driving system. This means that the electric car will be able to independently cope with most road situations.
The Maextro S800 will be the most expensive Chinese car and will occupy the class of representative sedans. The electric car will cost $138,000 in the minimum configuration, and $207,000 in the maximum configuration. For comparison, in China the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class costs from $202,000. Sales of the S800 will begin in mid-2025.
