The Swedish company Ericsson announced the signing of an agreement with Apple on licensing the use of its patented technology.  It put an end to a dispute over royalties for the use of 5G wireless technology in iPhones, Reuters reported.

The Swedish telecommunications equipment maker said the multiyear deal includes mobile standards licenses and technology patents worldwide, as well as some other patent rights.

"The settlement ends all ongoing patent-related legal disputes between the parties," the company said in a statement.

The deal comes after Ericsson filed a second patent infringement lawsuit against the U.S. iPhone maker in January.

The two companies had already sued each other in the U.S. after unsuccessful negotiations to extend a seven-year license agreement for telecommunications patents.  The contract was first signed in 2015.

Ericsson first went to court in October 2021, claiming that Apple was trying to improperly reduce royalty rates.  Apple then filed suit in December 2021, accusing the Swedish company of using coercive methods to extend its patents.

Ericsson has already published its fourth-quarter intellectual property rights licensing revenue forecast of SEK 5.0-5.5bn ($530.3-578.5m).
