Recently, Apple has abandoned plans to create an autopilot or fully autonomous electric car after a decade of attempts. Similar plans have also been shelved by South Korean corporation Samsung Electronics, which has been much more discreet in its approach to this technology. This was reported by Business Korea.

According to reports, the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), responsible for developing autonomous driving systems, has excluded them from its projects. Material and personnel resources will be redirected to robotics. The past year has shown that Samsung testers managed to cover 200 km on public roads with a prototype vehicle equipped with their proprietary autopilot.

Further development of such systems has been deemed impractical. This is due to technical difficulties and the need for significant efforts. Moreover, the financial return on such investments remains questionable, especially considering that substantial amounts would have to be invested over a long period.

Finally, competition in this field is very high, and traditional car manufacturers have a higher motivation to succeed in this direction. Thus, Samsung's abandonment of its ambitions in this area is a natural step.
