Mojang Studios has announced that the Minecraft video game has sold 300 million copies, making it the best-selling game in the world, the WindowsCentral portal reports.
According to Mojang Studios, the video game has crossed the 300 million mark in cross-platform sales, which is 115 million more than the sales figure of the video game's closest competitor, Grand Theft Auto V.
Over the past two and a half years, Minecraft sales have grown by 26%. In April 2021, Mojang Studios announced that the game had already sold 238 million copies at that time. And in fact, another 62 million copies of the video game have been sold since then.
Minecraft will be 15 years old next year. Mojang Studios plans to hold various events throughout 2024, as well as release several updates to celebrate the video game's 15-year anniversary.
Minecraft is a computer game of the sandbox genre, which was created by the Swedish developer Markus Persson. The game was released by its Mojang AB studio in 2009. Five years later, Microsoft acquired the rights to Minecraft for $2.5 billion, along with studio Mojang AB. The game has been released on various platforms and several generations of game consoles.
