Galaxy Book3 Ultra, Galaxy Book3 Pro and Galaxy Book3 Pro 360: What should you know about Samsung's new notebooks?

February 2, 2023  14:36

During the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled not only the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones, but also several laptops. The most interesting of the new products is probably the flagship Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra, which is called the main competitor to the MacBook Pro. But it also costs a lot – $2400.

The Galaxy Book3 Pro and Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 also deserve attention. These notebooks have AMOLED screens – like Galaxy smartphones, but, of course, bigger.

So, let's see what the new products from Samsung are.

Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra: The main competitor to the MacBook Pro?

The flagship Galaxy Book3 Ultra is considered the fastest and most productive laptop in the entire Galaxy Book family. It features a Raptor Lake generation Intel Core i7-13700H or Intel Core i9-13900H chip and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 or GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, which provide good performance in many modern games as well as a number of professional programs and applications. RAM is available in 16GB or 32GB in different configurations of the notebook, and SSD capacity is 512GB or 1TB.

The display in the laptop is a 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a resolution of 2880 × 1800 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m2. The display complies with VESA ClearMR and DisplayHDR TRUE BLACK 500 standards, which indicate quality picture reproduction in scenes with motion blur and correct display of black color. The display has also received SGS Eye Care Display certification: this means that it emits less blue light and is safer for the eyes.

The audio system consists of 4 speakers that provide clear sound and good bass. There are also dual studio-level microphones with noise-canceling function based on artificial intelligence.

The built-in battery capacity is 76Wh and there is support for 100W charging via USB Type-C.

As for connectors, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A port, an HDMI 2.0 connector, and a combined 3.5mm audio jack for headphones and microphone.

The laptop is quite thin and light: the thickness of the body is 10.2 mm, and it weighs only 1.77 kg.

The new flagship from Samsung is aimed at the same audience as the 16-inch MacBook Pro from Apple. That said, the cheapest configuration of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra (Intel Core i7-13700H, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) costs $2399.99 – $100 less than the most affordable version of the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The top-of-the-line configuration (Intel Core i9-13900H, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD) costs $3199.99.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra will only be available in graphite and will be available on February 22.

Galaxy Book3 Pro: AMOLED screen and Intel Core 13th generation

Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro laptops come in two versions measuring 14 and 16 inches. Although the screen diagonal in the two versions of laptops is different, the specifications are the same: Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a resolution of 2880 × 1800 pixels and dynamically changing refresh rate from 48 to 120 Hz. The brightness of the display is 400 cd/m2. The display, like the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, complies with VESA ClearMR and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 standards. There is also SGS Eye Care certification.
