Developers of WhatsApp plan to add a feature for decrypting voice messages to the Android version of the messenger. This was reported by the WABetaInfo portal.

The feature for decrypting voice messages was noticed in the messenger on the iPhone last year. Now developers plan to add it to the Android application as well – the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta version numbered 2.24.7.8.

In the published WABetaInfo screenshot, it is shown that in the tested version of WhatsApp, users are offered to download an additional 150 MB of data for the application to learn how to decrypt voice messages. According to the developers, voice-to-text translation will occur locally on the user's device to prevent message leaks. After downloading the additional package, WhatsApp will integrate decryption so that users can read voice messages.

A similar function is provided in many other messengers, including Telegram. In Pavel Durov's application, it is only available to Premium subscription owners, and no additional data download is required for its activation.

It is not yet clear which languages the new WhatsApp feature will support. Decrypting voice messages is still in the development and testing stage, so the implementation timeline remains unknown.
