Google search users will be able to generate images using a neural network

Google has introduced a function to create images using artificial intelligence in its search engine. Google Search Generative Experience (SGE) allows users to generate images based on text description using the Imagen artificial intelligence model.

To create an image, the user just needs to enter its description in the search bar, and the system will offer several options from which to choose the best one. The generated image can also be edited using text commands. The new feature also works in Google's image search section.

A search for “draw an image of a capybara wearing a chefs hat and cooking breakfast” leads to four generated images, all depicting a capybara in a chefs hat cooking different types of breakfast foods like bacon and eggs.

Google said it considered the ethical and legal aspects of using artificial intelligence to create images when developing the new feature. All generated images have a special label and watermark indicating their origin. The system does not create photorealistic images of people or celebrities' faces, and also refuses to create images that violate company policy.

The feature is currently only available in test mode for users over the age of 18 who have activated SGE in the Google Search Labs section.

A Google Image search for “minimalist halloween table settings” shows various images, then taps into an option to “Create something new, see brand news images generated with AI,” which generates an image of a table with a black tablecloth, white plates and napkins and spider decor.
