Cryptopay stops working with Russian clients: Which crypto-exchanges are still operating in Russia?

October 18, 2022  13:35

Crypto exchange Cryptopay intends to support a package of new sanctions that the European Union imposed on Russia. According to Izvestia, Cryptopay, founded by Dmitrii Guniashov, a native of Russia, stops working with clients from Russia.

Until October 21, users of this crypto exchange can withdraw their funds in any digital currency available on the site, after which all Russian accounts will be converted to euros and frozen, and it will be possible to withdraw them only through the support service and only to European bank accounts. At the same time, it will not be possible to withdraw euros to the account of another person.

Users from Russia - including foreign citizens who are in the country - can no longer create new accounts on Cryptopay. The possibility of registration is open only for Russians who live in the European Economic Area, the European Union and the United Kingdom. In order to register they will be asked to provide a residence permit and a document confirming a permanent residence address.

Blockchain.com, LocalBitcoins, BitMEX, Coinbase and Crypto.com were among the crypto-exchanges that supported the EU sanctions.

What crypto-exchanges are currently still operating in Russia?

According to RBC, the following platforms have not yet made any changes to their operations:

  • Binance (it should be noted that since April, Binance, in accordance with the fifth package of EU restrictive measures against Russia, restricted access to its services for users who live in Russia and have assets worth more than 10,000 euros. These clients are only able to withdraw funds)
  • Coinbase (this crypto-exchange, like the previous one, complies with the fifth EU restrictive package)
  • FTX
  • Garantex
  • Kraken
  • MEXC Global
  • KuCoin
  • Bybit
  • EXMO
  • OKX
  • Huobi Global
  • CoinEX

The above crypto-exchanges have not yet reported any restrictions for customers from Russia and continue to operate in normal mode.
