Apple is actively developing a new product category. According to Mark Gurman, the company plans to launch its first smart glasses, Apple Glasses, by the end of 2027. The project is reportedly one of CEO Tim Cook’s strategic priorities and is expected to become Apple’s next major product after Vision Pro.
What the first Apple Glasses will do
The glasses are expected to be a lightweight wearable device similar in concept to the popular Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The first generation is expected to include:
Built-in cameras for photos and videos; Speakers for music and audio playback; Microphones for calls and voice communication; Full Siri support; Voice notifications; Turn-by-turn navigation while walking.One important limitation is that the first version will not feature true augmented reality with displays positioned in front of the user's eyes. That capability is expected to arrive in later generations several years down the road. At launch, Apple will focus on cameras, audio features, voice assistance, and deep integration with the iPhone.
Design and materials
Apple is reportedly testing several frame designs, including:
Large and compact rectangular frames; Oval frames in different sizes.Multiple color options are planned, including classic black, light brown, and Apple’s signature blue. The company is also paying close attention to build quality, with versions ranging from standard plastic frames to more premium materials.
Price
The first Apple Glasses are expected to cost between $200 and $500, making them significantly more affordable than Vision Pro.
