Armenia may become a regional hub in the field of artificial intelligence. The startup Firebird has received approval from the U.S. government to import Nvidia’s advanced chips into Armenia, enabling the launch of its supercomputer project. The news was reported by Bloomberg, as cited by Armenpress.

The initiative continues Nvidia’s efforts announced in June and aims to create the first large-scale AI data processing center in the region. The facility will have a capacity of 100 megawatts, with initial investments totaling 500 million U.S. dollars. It will use AI servers from Dell Technologies and Nvidia’s Blackwell processors. According to Firebird co-founder Razmik Hovaghimian, the first phase is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
“Efforts announced by Nvidia back in June will enable the creation of the first large-scale AI data processing center in the region,” Bloomberg writes, quoting Hovaghimian.
Usage and Funding Plans
About 20 percent of Firebird’s computing capacity will be used by Armenian companies, while the remaining 80 percent will be sold to American companies operating in the region. The first phase will be financed through credit lines raised by the startup and through equity capital. Hovaghimian noted that the company is also supported by Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, one of the most influential figures in the Armenian diaspora.
