Microsoft Word and Excel can now work instead of the user: AI Copilot creates reports and tables

Microsoft has integrated its AI assistant Copilot into Word and Excel, enabling it to independently generate tables, reports, and data visualizations. The new features, available in test versions, simplify document work and boost productivity, the company announced in its official blog.

Copilot in Excel: Formulas in Natural Language

In Excel, Copilot is now invoked through a special formula, =COPILOT, where the user describes a task in plain words. The assistant not only responds but also creates complete tables, analyzes data, and builds charts.

For example: the request “create a sales table by region with a growth chart” will automatically fill cells, calculate totals, and generate a visualization. Copilot takes context into account, offering options the user can review and refine.

Copilot in Word: Reports and Comparisons

In Word, AI helps generate reports, summarize periods, and compare document versions. A user can ask: “summarize the quarterly report” or “compare with the previous version” — and Copilot will draft text, highlight changes, and suggest improvements.

This feature is especially useful in corporate workflows: the AI checks facts, formats text, and proposes structure.

New Office Agent Mode in Copilot

Microsoft is introducing Office Agent — a Copilot chat mode where AI creates PowerPoint presentations and Word documents directly in conversation. The user describes the task, and the agent produces a ready file that can be further refined.

This makes the process flexible: from idea to finished material — in a single window.

The updates boost productivity through:

The features are available in Microsoft 365 (beta version for subscribers). The full release is expected in 2026.
