According to noted insider and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is developing its first foldable tablet, which will be released in 2028. Gurman describes the device as “something akin to a giant iPad that folds out to the size of two iPad Pro's,” reports 9to5Mac.
Rumors of Apple developing a foldable device have been swirling for years, but Bloomberg reports that the company is finally focusing on a single product that will be unveiled in a few years.
The report also indicates that Apple is keen to avoid creases on its devices, and this has been given a lot of attention during development. Currently, creases are almost unnoticeable, but Apple hasn't completely gotten rid of them yet.
“The prototypes of this new product, designed by Apple's industrial design team, have an almost imperceptible crease. However, it's too early to tell if Apple will be able to get rid of it completely. Samsung Electronics, which released its first foldable phone five years ago and has been trying unsuccessfully to eliminate this nuance ever since,” Gurman said.
When unfolded, the display diagonal will apparently be around 20 inches. Apparently, 9to5Mac noted, Apple's foldable device strategy is aimed at creating much larger screens that can be carried around in a backpack. That said, other vendors are now focusing on more compact representations of actual-sized displays.
